Elementary Battle of the Books
Last year's Battle of the Books was another huge success and we are looking forward to another great year! On this wiki, you will find all the materials you need to get started with this project.

Battle of the Books is a reading competition designed to challenge students identified for gifted education services with challenging, high quality literature. The preselected list of 40 books is determined with these students in mind. Each participant is expected to read at least 10-12 books. Special recognition is paid to those who choose to read all 40 books and those students will be eligible to compete in an additional competition, The 40 Book Challenge. Students who have a great deal of task committment and an intrinsic love of reading will be the most successful with Battle of the Books.

The official start date for Battle of the Books is August 24, 2016. Even though this is a competitive event, students will be working as a team and teamwork will be emphasized. All building competitions should occur by March 3, 2017. The regional competitions occur the week after Spring Break, with the final round held in April. The complete schedule is available on the Calendar page.

Please feel free to recommend books for consideration for next year's list. Post your recommendations on the wiki page labeled Books to Consider for 2017-2018. If you have questions, feel free to contact us either by phone or email. Good luck and have a great time with the Battle of the Books!
